The initial organ transplant procedures, which began with a kidney transplant on April 14, 1982, were later organized under the name of the Organ Transplantation Education, Research and Practice Center, established on October 31, 1991, under the authority of the Rectorate of Akdeniz University.

In 2010, the center was renamed as the Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu Organ Transplantation Education, Research and Practice Center. Subsequently, in 2011, Turkey’s first Organ Transplantation Institute, the Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu Organ Transplantation Institute, was established.

Today, the center successfully performs almost all types of organ and composite tissue transplants, primarily kidney transplants.
